Meet the guide for a brief orientation of India’s Jewish neighbourhood before starting the tour. Visit Sassoon Docks, one of the oldest docks in Mumbai, built by an influential family of Baghdadi Jews.See the Gateway of India, the Fort Heritage District and the Kala Ghoda Art District. Here, visit the beautiful Keneseth Eliyahoo Synagogue, with its elaborate interiors; and the David Sassoon Library, a protected monument. Continue to the towering Gothic-style Magen David Synagogue and then to Shaar Harahamim, the oldest synagogue in Mumbai. Also known as the Gate of Mercy Synagogue it was built in 1796 by Samaji Hasaji Divekar, a Bene Israeli.
Itinerary
Pick-up from the hotel& transfer to first location of the tour, on arrival you will be welcomed by our tour guide. This tour starts with a brief orientation on India’s Jewish communities. We will begin our sightseeing with Sassoon Docks, built by an influential family of Baghdadi Jews,from here, we will drive to the Gateway of India, and see the Fort Heritage District and the Kala Ghoda Art District & visitKennesethEliyahoo Synagogue, with its beautiful interiors, and the David Sassoon Library.
Next, we will visit the oldest synagogue in Mumbai, the ShaarHarahamim or Gate of Mercy Synagogue, built in 1796, by SamajiHasajiDivekar,a Bene Israeli. Later, we will drive to the Magen David Synagogue. We will visit the Sassoon Children’s school in the same compound.
On the way to these synagogues, you can see the stunning Victoria Terminus. If you’d like to walk through a traditional market area, you can also ask the guide to show you Crawford Market.We will stop for a lunch at the clients preferred restaurant (Lunch is not included. You can ask the guide for suggestions.)
Later, we will drive to Dhobi Ghat, also see Haji Ali, the city’s unique mosque in the sea.
Your tour will also take you through Marine Drive / Chowpatty, Oval Maidan, High Court, Bombay University, Flora Fountain, Old Banking District, Horniman Circle, Asiatic Library, Regal Circle, etc.
